3D Printing Assignment
For this project, I designed a headphone holder that would look like BB8 from Star Wars. However, after sketching out multiple ideas and dimensions, I quickly learned that I had no idea how to make curved objects in Inventor. Because of this, I ended up learning how to use the Fillet tool in Inventor to make spherical shapes. I learned this because of an earlier revelation that you can't add 2D sketches to designs created with the sphere tool. Because I had to make a hole in my body design and a lip for the head design, I instead used the Fillet tool and used the radius of the extruded circle as the given radius. This made the same end shape, but allowed me to add extra features to the object. Also, due to some technical difficulties, I also learned more about the 3D printers, specifically how to pause the printer efficiently, and how to change filament types.
In addition, the filament kept breaking. However, it was all completely worth it when my design was actually printed. I then spent a class period sanding the lip on the lid of my design so that the cap would properly fit, and then I had a completed headphone holder!
